The Housing Rehabilitation Program (HRP) offers financial assistance to low- and moderate-income owner-occupants of single-family detached homes in Compton.

The program aims to:

Preserve safe, decent, and sanitary housing
Correct hazardous structural conditions
Eliminate blight
Address building and health code violations

Assistance is provided through grants or loans, and all repairs must be made to eligible residential properties within Compton city limits.

Housing Rehabilitation Assistance in Compton: A Lifeline for Homeowners

The City of Compton’s 2025 Housing Rehabilitation Program helps low- to moderate-income homeowners—including seniors, veterans, and disabled residents—make critical home repairs, energy upgrades, and accessibility improvements. Eligible households may receive up to $30,000–$35,000. Applications are open July 14–31, 2025. Apply online or in person at Compton City Hall. The goal is to ensure safe, healthy, and dignified housing for all residents.

Eulogy for Dave Scott

The Compton Chamber of Commerce mourns the loss of Dave Scott, beloved choreographer and hometown icon, who passed at 52. Born and raised in Compton, Dave rose from self-taught street dancer to global influence in film and television. He uplifted others, mentored youth, and proudly represented Compton with heart, artistry, and grace. His legacy lives on in our community and beyond.

Compton High School Alumni Association Announces 2025 Scholarship Winners

On May 29, 2025, the Compton High School Alumni Association awarded $1,000 scholarships to seniors Gabriel Ulloa (Maxcy Filer Community Service Award) and Jackeline Maltos Garibay (Most Improved Award). All 2025 graduates also received commemorative dogtags with the Tarbabe mascot and CHSAA logo. CHSAA, founded in 2006, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting Compton High alumni. California Considers Reinstating Asset Test for Medi-Cal Eligibility Among Seniors and Disabled

Governor Newsom proposes reinstating an asset test for certain Medi-Cal applicants to address a $12B budget deficit, reversing a 2024 reform. Seniors and disabled individuals with assets over $2K ($3K for couples) could lose coverage. Advocates warn this penalizes savings and hurts equity. Broader cuts include limiting care for undocumented adults and removing benefits, sparking backlash from health groups urging protection for vulnerable communities.

The 2026 State of Black Los Angeles County Report is currently in development

The 2026 State of Black LA County Report is underway, building on the 2023–2025 findings. With Black aging and caregiving as key focuses, May 17 is now Black Elders Appreciation Day. The Compton Chamber encourages churches and local groups to engage in shaping this report by hosting forums, providing feedback, and developing solutions that address disparities across all areas of Black life in Los Angeles County.
